Conventional boat cleaning treatments often entail the use of abrasives which gradually, over time, wear away the gelcoat. With each application a little more is removed, making it more and more porous. As porosity increases so does the speed of staining. Excessive use of abrasive cleaners can often remove the gelcoat entirely or leave only a very thin film resulting in that 'patchy' or grey look so often seen in harbours and marinas.
