Q. How is GRPro-clean different from other boat cleaning services?

A. Traditional boat cleaning methods include the use of abrasives in the form of “rubbing compound” to mechanically remove a layer of the fibreglass revealing a fresh layer below, whilst this can provide short term results the gelcoat is now damaged and will be prone to future staining. The coloured outer layer of fibreglass is known as gelcoat and can be as thin as 0.5mm, by using abrasive compounds the gelcoat can be quickly worn away resulting in the craft requiring a repaint. Most “rubbing compounds” are designed for the car market and contain ammonia which actually damages gelcoat. Some boat cleaners will even use “brick cleaning acid” to clean fibreglass which is not only highly toxic but is so harsh it can remove galvanising from steel!!!

GRPro-clean uses NO harsh abrasives or chemicals to remove staining. All our products are specifically designed for cleaning and protecting fibreglass causing NO damage whatsoever.

As each GRPro-clean operative is highly trained you can be sure of consistent performance wherever you are year in year out.

Q. How long should treatment last?

A. Experience to date around the world is that the cleaned gelcoat finished with its protective coat should remain clean and shiny for at least a season and often longer, particularly if regularly washed down with G R Pro-Clean S&V Wash. In areas of little airborne and/or waterborne pollution, it is anticipated the service will achieve better results. The longevity of the protective coat does depend upon the use to which your boat is put after cleaning. It is suggested conventional waxing of boat decks usually lasts 3 to 4 months and waxing of the hull usually lasts 4 to 6 months, depending on weather conditions.
