How it all began

Jim HerculsonIn 1985, Jim Herculson, a lifelong yachtsman from Norfolk, England, having used numerous conventional 'cleaners' with varying and rarely successful results, decided there had to be easier ways of keeping his fibreglass yacht in good condition. He was also concerned at the damage caused by some products to the gelcoat (outer skin).

Using his own 20+ years of experience in the field of synthetic resins and chemicals and with the help of a friendly laboratory, Jim first developed a product to remove brown staining on and just above the waterline of his boat. Over the years his interest in discovering new, easier ways of maintaining fibreglass increased, as did the Product Range and problems they could solve.

Gradually the sight of one gleaming, stain-free, yacht amongst many tired yet younger boats caught the attention of fellow yachtsmen and his local boatyard started using the products. In 1998 it was decided to take the system - which it had been decided would only be applied by trained licensed operatives - to the market place, so G R Pro-clean (which now has eight products) was born.

This family company, in which Jim's daughter Abbie is also an executive director, had fifteen Licensed operatives in the UK by the end of 1999.

Following success in the UK, enquiries came from overseas and G R Pro-clean started to establish itself Internationally. The company now has operatives in 14 countries, please see our Locations page for full details.
